Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court after spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, including in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform assertively, supported by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured victory with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
